Kids Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ)

Kids Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a fun, structured program where kids learn confidence, discipline, and practical self-defence — without aggression. We focus on safe technique, control, and good choices, while helping kids feel included and proud of their progress.

Whether your child is brand new or has trained before, they’ll build strong fundamentals, make friends, and learn how to work with others respectfully.

What kids learn

  • How to fall safely and move with control

  • Escapes from common holds and positions

  • Balance, coordination, and body awareness

  • Partner training skills: listening, teamwork, and respect

  • Focus, patience, and problem-solving under pressure

Who the program is for

Tiny Tots (Ages 4–6)
A playful introduction to BJJ with lots of structure. Kids build movement, balance, coordination, and listening skills through age-appropriate games and drills. The goal is comfort on the mats, confidence with partners, and learning how to follow directions.

Kids BJJ (Ages 6–12)
A more technical class where kids learn real Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in a safe, controlled way. We introduce positional awareness, basic submissions, and escapes, while emphasizing calm decision-making and respectful training with teammates.

How classes work

Classes are coach-led and closely supervised. We teach techniques step by step, then kids practice with a partner at a pace that matches their age and experience. Safety, control, and respect come first — always.

Kids progress gradually with clear expectations and lots of encouragement. Our goal is for every child to feel supported, included, and appropriately challenged.

Frequently Asked Questions

My child is shy — will they be okay?
Yes. A lot of kids start out nervous. We keep the first few classes simple, pair them with supportive partners, and help them settle in at their own pace.

Does BJJ encourage fighting?
No. We teach control, boundaries, and respect. The goal is confidence and calm decision-making — not aggression.ose supervision, and age-appropriate intensity.

What if my child has trouble listening or staying focused?
That’s common — and training helps. Classes are structured and coaches give lots of clear, positive direction.

Will my child get hurt?
Bumps happen in any sport, but we prioritize safety: controlled training, close supervision, and age-appropriate intensity.

Do they have to roll (spar)?
Not right away. Partner work is introduced gradually. When live training is introduced, it’s controlled and coached.

What if my child is bigger/smaller than others?
We match partners carefully and focus on safe teamwork. Size differences are managed responsibly.

Can parents watch?
Yes — parents are welcome to watch from the viewing area.

Do we need a gi for the trial class?
No. Athletic clothes are perfect. If they continue, we’ll help you choose a gi that fits properly.
