How classes work

Frequently Asked Questions
Does my teen need experience to start?
No. Many teens start with no martial arts background. The class is beginner-friendly while still challenging experienced students.
Will my teen be training with adults?
No. Teens train in a dedicated class with others their own age. This helps create a comfortable learning environment and ensures training intensity is appropriate.
Is it mostly self-defence or sport?
Both. Teens learn real self-defence fundamentals, plus the sport side of grappling and competition options (if they want it).
What should my teen wear?
For the free trial: t-shirt and shorts/leggings are great. If they continue, we’ll help with getting them a uniform (gi).
Will there be sparring?
Live training is introduced gradually and in a controlled manner. Sparring is a regular part of Teens BJJ class, introduced progressively and closely supervised. Teens take part at an appropriate level for their experience.
How does BJJ help with confidence?
They learn how to stay calm under pressure, solve problems, and improve week to week — it carries over to school and life.
What if my teen is worried about looking awkward or not fitting in?
Totally normal. The culture is supportive, and most teens start as beginners. Coaches help them feel welcomed right away.
