Tiny Tots Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a fun, structured program for children ages 4–6. Through age-appropriate games, movement drills and simple BJJ activities, children build confidence, coordination and listening skills in a safe and supportive environment.
No previous experience is needed. Our goal is to help each child feel comfortable on the mats, learn how to participate in a group and develop a positive relationship with martial arts.
What Tiny Tots learn
Who the program is for
Tiny Tots BJJ — Ages 4–6
Tiny Tots is designed for young children who are ready to begin learning in a structured group environment.
Classes focus on movement, confidence, cooperation and becoming comfortable training with coaches and other children. We introduce Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu gradually without expecting young students to learn at the same pace as older children.
Age six is a transition year. Some six-year-olds are ready to move into our Kids BJJ program, while others benefit from remaining in Tiny Tots a little longer.
Placement is based on maturity, focus, confidence and readiness—not age alone. Our coaches will help you decide which class is the best fit for your child.

Kids Brazilian Jiu JitsuHow classes work
Classes are coach-led and closely supervised. We use short drills, movement activities and age-appropriate games to keep children engaged while introducing the foundations of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Children practise listening, moving safely and working with a partner. We keep expectations clear while understanding that young children may need time to become comfortable participating.
Some children join in immediately, while others prefer to watch before taking part. We help each child settle in at their own pace while encouraging them to become more confident and independent over time.
Safety, patience and positive reinforcement come first.
A parent or guardian must remain at the gym throughout the class in case their child needs a break, reassurance or additional support.

Frequently Asked Questions
My child is shy or nervous. Will they be okay?
Yes, it is very common for young children to be nervous in a new environment. We keep their first experience simple and help them become comfortable at their own pace.
Some children join the class immediately, while others need time to watch, meet the coaches and become familiar with the gym.
What if my child does not participate during the first class?
That is okay. For many young children, watching and becoming comfortable is the first step.
We will encourage your child to participate without making their first experience feel overwhelming. It may take more than one class for some children to feel ready to join everything.
Does Tiny Tots BJJ encourage fighting?
No. We teach children to move safely, listen to their coaches, respect their training partners and use control.
The goal is to develop confidence and good decision-making—not aggression.
Do Tiny Tots spar or roll?
Tiny Tots do not participate in the same type of live sparring as older students.
Partner activities are introduced gradually through closely supervised games and drills. The focus is on safe movement, cooperation and becoming comfortable working with another child.
Will my child get hurt?
Bumps can happen in any physical activity, but safety is always our priority.
Classes are closely supervised, and activities are selected specifically for young children. We teach safe falling, controlled movement and respectful partner work from the beginning.
What if my child has trouble listening or staying focused?
That is completely normal at this age.
Tiny Tots classes give children regular opportunities to practise listening, following directions, waiting their turn and participating in a group. These skills develop gradually through consistent training.
Do parents need to stay during class?
Yes. A parent or guardian is required to remain at the gym for the entire Tiny Tots class.
Young children sometimes need a short break, reassurance or support when they are having a difficult day. Our coaches will lead the class and encourage independence, but parents must remain available if their child needs them.
Does my child need a gi?
A gi is not required for the free trial. Comfortable athletic clothing is perfect.
If your child continues training, we will help you choose the correct uniform and size.
When should my child move into Kids BJJ?
Children generally begin transitioning into the Kids classes at around age six, but we do not move children based on their birthday alone.
We consider their focus, maturity, confidence, physical readiness and ability to participate in a more technical class. Our coaches will speak with you when we feel your child is ready.
What happens if my child turns six but is not ready to move up?
They can remain in Tiny Tots.
There is no need to move a child into the older class before they are ready. We want each student to feel successful, confident and appropriately challenged.
